Based in San Diego, California, Caliber Director Ryan Hall joined the team in 2021, establishing the firm’s presence on the West Coast. He sat down with Caliber Culture Manager, Kate Forster, to talk about his career in PR, his passion for leadership and his adventurous side. Kate: Since we’re currently a work-from-home friendly workplace, tell us about “home” for you!

Ryan: I’m originally from Colorado, but grew up in Southern California. I’ve lived in the San Diego area since 2008 and currently live in the city of Lakeside, which is in East San Diego County. In the years before settling down in the San Diego area, I lived in 7 other cities!

Kate: What’s your favorite part of your job as a Caliber director?

Ryan: I love helping clients tell their stories and connect with the audiences that matter most to their business. I’m a big believer in what we do and love seeing things move from initial strategy to execution to results. It’s truly rewarding to help clients achieve awareness and visibility to support their growth objectives… getting the “PR Machine” rolling for my clients is what it’s all about!

Kate: What do you like to do outside of work?

Ryan: I love to spend time with my wife and two girls… I’m a girl dad and love everything that comes with it, from soccer practice to tea parties. I also enjoy traveling, camping, hiking, trying new restaurants and craft beers, BBQing or smoking meats and watching sports! I’m a big NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball fan… go Padres!

Kate: What’s one accomplishment from your childhood that you still brag about?

Ryan: I used to be fast. I had the second-fastest mile time in middle school. Also, I was pretty good at basketball. I was also a decent skateboarder once upon a time… which most people don’t seem to believe. 

Kate: Since joining Caliber, what career milestone makes you proud?

Ryan: I’m thrilled to be leading teams and managing people again. That is something I enjoy tremendously and look forward to every day. I am continually amazed by the talent and dedication of our team. Caliber’s learning and mentorship culture inspires me, and I’m glad to be a part of it. 

Kate: What’s one thing that amazes you about fintech or innovation in financial services?

Ryan: I love working with clients who are disruptors in their space, but more importantly, are also working to improve people’s lives. Our clients are doing incredible things that make the world better… Whether it’s making housing more accessible or addressing antiquated market infrastructure, I have the opportunity to work with really smart people who are doing big things that improve people’s lives. That makes the work we do incredibly rewarding. 

Kate: If you had to include one ingredient in every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ryan: Tabasco. I put it on everything.
