Meet Jack Audett, aka “Captain Jack” — a three-time spelling bee champ, avid runner and Dune enthusiast who knows the value of asking questions.

Whether he’s securing media coverage for fintech innovators or gearing up for his first marathon, Jack approaches every challenge with focus and curiosity.

Kate: What is your favorite nickname and how did you get it?

During our company offsite this past September, I earned the nickname “Captain Jack.” We were brainstorming a team name during a group activity and settled on “Captain Jack and His Shipmates.” I was obsessed with Jack Sparrow as a kid, so I’m a huge fan of this nickname. Hopefully, I can live up to my namesake!

Kate: Where do you consider “home”? What is special about it?

That’s a tricky question — I guess I consider Canaan, New Hampshire, my hometown, to be my ‘home.’ It’s a tiny town near the Vermont border — very beautiful, quiet and full of wildlife. Having spent most of my childhood there, it holds some of my fondest memories, like camping with my friends as a young kid, not really knowing what we were doing.

But, having lived in Boston for five years now, I’ve also grown to love it here. The Museum of Fine Arts, for example, is one place I love to visit in my free time, and my neighborhood, Back Bay, is beautiful and has some of the best food in Boston. I’ve met many of the most important people in my life here, so it will always have a place in my heart.

Kate: What non-work activities inspire you?

Writing and reading are two activities that have always inspired me. Admittedly, I don’t write as much in my free time as I used to, but writing more is one of my 2025 goals. Reading has always inspired me creatively and in my everyday life. Often, we get too caught up in our own lives, so I find it especially important to seek new perspectives from both authors and characters.

Kate: If you had to include one ingredient in every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Probably cheese. It’s so versatile and can elevate almost any dish. Plus, there are so many types of cheese to choose from. Cheese is awesome.

Kate: What’s your favorite movie and/or book?

My favorite book is the original Dune novel. I read it about a year before the movie’s release [in 2021] and instantly fell in love. It’s definitely one of the strangest books I’ve ever read. Frank Herbert’s ability to weave philosophy into science fiction, while exploring themes of ecology, power and survival is so unique and thought-provoking.

Not to mention, the characters are some of the most complex and interesting I’ve come across. Paul Atreides, for example, evolves from a young and inexperienced heir to a messianic ruler who grapples with immense internal conflicts and power, leading him to question the cost of leadership.

Kate: What’s one accomplishment from your childhood that you still brag about?

I was a three-time spelling bee champ in middle school! One of the words I won with was “liaison.” I wish my spelling was as stellar now as it was then!

Kate: What’s something your colleagues don’t know about you?

Some of my colleagues might not know that I’m an avid runner! I ran cross country throughout middle school and high school, and I’m planning to run my first marathon in New Hampshire this October. Running has always been an important part of my life, and I’ve really started to get back into it over the last year or so. My dad ran 13 marathons when he was younger, so I think a lot of my passion for the sport comes from him.

Kate: When you think about your time at Caliber, what career accomplishment or milestone makes you feel most proud?

I think my biggest milestone at Caliber was securing my first media bite from a pitch I sent about Small Business Administration (SBA) lending, which resulted in coverage in Tearsheet, a publication focused on the global fintech industry. That experience was just really validating for me as a Graduate Associate, and it gave me the confidence I needed to excel as a young PR professional.

Kate: You participated in Caliber’s Summer Grad Program. What was your biggest takeaway from participating in the program?

My biggest takeaway from participating in the Caliber Summer Graduate Program was definitely honing my time management skills. As a PR professional, you’re constantly juggling multiple tasks for various clients, and it’s important to know how to prioritize effectively. There often isn’t much downtime, so developing these skills is crucial to success. The time management skills I acquired as a Graduate Associate have greatly helped me transition into my role as an Account Coordinator.

Kate: Any advice you would give to the next Summer Grad?

My biggest piece of advice for the next Summer Grad would be to not be afraid to ask questions. Early on, I was hesitant to ask a lot of questions because I worried it might seem like I didn’t know what I was doing. But, as I got more comfortable, I realized that asking questions is essential to learning and growing in your role. It shows initiative and ensures you’re on the right track — especially in a fast-paced environment like Caliber’s. Not to mention, everyone here is incredibly supportive and always willing to help you with any questions you might have. Embrace asking questions, because there is always something new to learn!

Kate: Thinking about the industries we serve, what’s one thing that amazes you about fintech or innovation in financial services?

What really amazes me about fintech is the endless possibilities it presents. There aren’t many other industries that evolve at such a rapid pace as fintech — there’s always something new on the horizon, particularly with the advent of AI.

Fintech’s ability to transform traditional banking and financial services isn’t about change for the sake of change; it’s about improving some of the most critical aspects of everyday life by making them more accessible, efficient, and secure. I’m eager to see how the industry continues to evolve. In just my short time at Caliber so far, I’ve been truly impressed by the remarkable developments within industry.

Kate: What’s your favorite Caliber perk?

For me, it’s the remote work environment. Initially, I was nervous about working fully remote, especially as it’s first job out of college, but I’ve really grown to appreciate it. The flexibility is incredibly helpful for maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and Caliber goes above and beyond to foster a strong team culture and maintain meaningful connections, which can be challenging in a remote setting.

Kate: What’s your favorite thing about working at Caliber?

Definitely the people! Everyone here is so friendly, kind, supportive and brilliant! It’s inspiring to work with team members who are truly passionate about what they do. This has been hugely influential for me as I’ve begun my career. Just knowing that I have a such a supportive and bright team behind me is motivating, and my colleagues drive me to improve every day!

Kate: What historical figure do you most admire?

I’d have to say Jim Morrison, the lead singer of The Doors. I think what really inspires me about him is his uniqueness as an artist — he had no formal vocal training yet developed one of the most iconic voices in music. His background as a writer and poet gave him a deep, introspective approach to songwriting, helping him become a symbol of the rebellious, countercultural era of the 1960s. I really admire people who go against the grain and, in doing so, reshape and define culture. Jim Morrison was definitely one of those individuals in modern history.
