Working at Caliber

Known by her friends as “Car,” Caliber Account Executive Caroline is a vibrant member of the Caliber team. Whether she’s starting her day with an early morning workout or diving into the pages of her favorite book, Caroline’s energy and passion are truly contagious. Read on to find out what literary classic she’s read at least 10 times, who inspired her to pursue PR and why she calls the Windy City home.

Kate: What is your favorite nickname and how did you get it?

Caroline: Actually, I have three nicknames! The first one, “Car,” is what all my friends call me. I got it from my high school dance team coach because there was another girl on the team with the same first and middle name. The second one is “Caros,” which my mom calls me. I’m not sure how she came up with it, but it always makes me think of home. Finally, my absolute favorite is “Dodo.” The only person who calls me this is my five-year-old nephew, Ashton, who is the light of my life.

Kate: Where do you consider “home”? What is special about it?

Caroline: As most of my Caliber family knows, I currently live in Chicago and have for the past seven years. I am probably the number one fan of Chicago and will always consider this city to be my home. Chicago is so special to me because I became an adult in this city and have truly accomplished so much here. I always say, if you haven’t experienced summer in Chicago, you haven’t lived!

Kate: What non-work activities inspire you?

Caroline: Outside of work at Caliber, I am a certified Pure Barre instructor! I have always valued finding movement that I enjoy, and Pure Barre is absolutely that for me. It has become my home away from home, and I am constantly inspired by my fellow teachers and our clients. I love being a part of a community that encourages showing up for yourself every single day.

Kate: If you had to include one ingredient in every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Caroline: Definitely cheese. All kinds.

Kate: What’s your favorite movie and/or book?

Caroline: I have the same favorite movie and book — Little Women. The most recent adaptation by Greta Gerwig is a masterpiece. I first read Little Women in middle school when my mom gifted me her copy, and I immediately fell in love with the sisters and their individual stories as they grew into adults, seeing myself in nearly every one of them. I think I have now reread the story about 10 times, and it never gets old!

Kate: What’s one accomplishment from your childhood that you still brag about?

Caroline: Does high school count as childhood? If so, my senior year, I was the district champion in Dramatic Interpretation for my school’s Speech Team and represented us at Nationals!

Kate: What’s something your colleagues don’t know about you?

Caroline: I am a massive morning person! I wake up around 5 am every morning to work out before the work day gets started, and absolutely love my mornings.

Kate: When you think about your time at Caliber, what career accomplishment or milestone makes you feel most proud?

Caroline: My biggest accomplishment in general is just how much I have grown over the last year and a half. Looking back from when I first started, with the help of my amazing colleagues, I truly feel that I have made massive progress as a PR professional.

Kate: Name one thing that amazes you about fintech or innovation in financial services.

Caroline: It’s hard to narrow down to one thing that amazes me because the industry is constantly evolving and becoming world-changing. That fact in general is what amazes me about fintech. Personally, I am very interested in the way fintech companies are implementing AI/machine learning into their services.

Kate: What’s your favorite Caliber Perk?

Caroline: Definitely the unlimited PTO. Caliber truly values their employees work-life balance and that is felt!

Caroline Shull Quote

Kate: What’s your favorite thing about working at Caliber?

Caroline: Easily the team I get to work with every single day! I am so proud of the Caliber team and feel honored to get to work alongside the best of the best minds in public relations.

Kate: Which historical figure do you most admire?

Caroline: I’ve always admired Barbara Hunter — the first woman to buy a major PR agency! I first learned about Barbara as a college freshman, and her groundbreaking work inspired me to pursue public relations as a career and to follow in her footsteps.

Kate: Looking back, are there any defining moments in your life that helped make you the rockstar you are today?

Caroline: One of my most defining moments took place when I was studying abroad in Rome, Italy, as a sophomore in college. Up to that point, I had never even left the country, but choosing to take that leap and fully immerse myself into a new culture allowed me to recognize that I truly can do anything I set my mind to — no matter how scary or unknown it may be. My favorite quote that I tell myself on an almost daily basis is: “Do it scared.”
