Working at Caliber

Based in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, Caliber Account Coordinator Casey Mannix joined the team in June of 2022. This creative fashionista, immersed bookworm, and fine arts enthusiast sat down with Caliber Culture Manager, Kate Forster, to talk about her career in public relations in the financial services and fintech industries. Read on to learn more about Caliber Account Coordinator and Summer Grad Associate alum Casey Mannix in this Staff Spotlight interview.

Kate: What is your favorite nickname and how did you get it?

Casey: My dad gave me the nickname “peeps” when I was in elementary school. I don’t know where he got it, but it stuck. He still calls me that to this day, and even my friends picked it up.

Kate: Where do you consider “home”? What is special about it?

Casey: “Home” to me is Doylestown, Pennsylvania. I grew up there, and the memories and friendships will stick with me for life. It’s the cutest town with so much to do, especially in the summer. My friends and family still live there, and I hope to move back in the next few years and settle down there.

Kate: What non-work activities inspire you?

Casey: I’ve always loved fashion, so shopping and styling is super fun to me. In the last year, I’ve gotten into reading, which I’ve found to be a great way to relax and be entertained when I don’t want to watch TV.

Kate: If you had to include one ingredient in every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Casey: Salt or sugar. I have the biggest sweet tooth, and constantly crave sweet and salty foods.

Kate: What’s your favorite movie and/or book?

Casey: My favorite movie is the Harry Potter series. As for my favorite book, it would be The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, which my manager Jamie introduced me to.

Kate: What’s one accomplishment from your childhood that you still brag about?

Casey: I am not athletic whatsoever, but my parents wanted me to try every sport that existed including lacrosse. I was probably the worst player on the team and still somehow scored six goals in one game.

Kate: What’s something your colleagues don’t know about you?

Casey: Something my colleagues don’t know about me is that I used to be very passionate about music and dance for a long time. I danced for six years, played the clarinet for one, was in choir for five, and was in the school play twice.

Kate: When you think about your time at Caliber, what career accomplishment or milestone makes you feel most proud?

Casey: I have to say my biggest accomplishment would be getting the job at Caliber at all. I was new to PR and fintech, but the hiring team saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself at the time, so to be given the opportunity to begin my career with Caliber as a Summer Graduate Associate and then to be brought on full-time was an amazing feeling.

Kate: Name one thing that amazes you about fintech or innovation in financial services.

Casey: Fintech is always around us, especially in ways you wouldn’t imagine. A fintech company could be something as general as a neobank, but could also be a company that builds and invests in other companies. A big part of fintech is collaboration and partnerships, which opens up the doors to endless opportunities.

Kate: What’s your favorite thing about working at Caliber?

Casey: My favorite part of working at Caliber is the people. You can be extremely good at your job, but at the end of the day, if the people you work with aren’t uplifting, you lack motivation. At Caliber, you can go to anyone for guidance. We all recognize that we will never stop learning and there is always room for growth.

Kate: What historical figure do you most admire?

Casey: I admire Michelle Obama because she supports women and young girls of all races and religions to continue their education, and she started the Let Girls Learn program that encourages girls to commit to their education. Her sense of humor as the First Lady made her relatable to her audience as well.
